Buying the correct gas cylinder for your barbeque can be perceived as a complicated process, however it can be straightforward and simple purchase if you follow our guide below.

Purchased a new barbeque from a UK Retailer?

The majority of new barbeques from large UK retailers will come pre-fitted or supplied with a Clip on Propane Regulator that has a 27mm diameter. A few examples are shown below

We stock 4 different cylinders which vary in size and material however the cylinders have the following important similarities

  • Filled with Propane Gas
  • Fitted with 27mm clip on valves

What are the differences between the cylinders?

Gaslight 5kg and 10kg

These cylinders are our most popular sellers due their unique features

  • Lightweight - half the weight of a traditional steel equivalent
  • Shape and colouring - colour ideal to blend into the garden and not be an eyesore.
  • No rust – made from corrosion proof fibreglass that will not rust.
  • Visible content indicator - see how much gas you have before you run out.

If you have a barbecue that has a dedicated storage cabinet, this will usually accommodate the 5kg Gaslight – Height 393 mm and Diameter 305 mm.

If you have a barbecue where the cylinder sits freestanding on the side of the barbecue, we recommend the 10kg Gaslight - Height 587 mm Diameter 305 mm.

BP/Flogas 6kg and 11kg

These cylinders are traditional metal cylinders which are more economically priced in comparison to our Gas Light cylinders due to their lower cylinder manufacturing and refurbishment costs.

If you have a barbecue that has a dedicated storage cabinet, this will usually accommodate the 6kg Leisure/Patio gas – Height 495mm Diameter 256mm.

If you have a barbecue where the cylinder sits freestanding on the side of the barbecue, we recommend the 11kg Leisure/Patio gas - Height 560mm Diameter 310mm.

Have a barbecue that doesn’t have a 27mm clip on regulator?

In the unlikely event that you have purchased a barbecue that has a screw type propane regulator we have two cylinders that are compatible.

6kg Propane cylinder

11kg Propane cylinder

Barbecues that usually come pre-fitted with screw type propane regulators are generally for commercial use. You will also need a propane spanner when connecting your regulator to the cylinder.

Have a barbecue with a foreign regulator?

We stock many foreign adapters that are compatible with foreign barbecues/regulator, however to ensure you purchase the correct adapter – please email us with a photo of your existing regulator and we will guide you through the process on selecting the correct adapter.
